On 2th February, international wetlands day, Nigula Research and Monitoring Centre will be opened.

Seminar: GIS in the frame of WETLIVONIA project, on the 17th of December at 12.00. The place of the seminar will be the Nigula centre (Vana-Järve) of State Nature Conservation Centre, Pärnu-Viljandi region. Information Day about possibilities to apply geographic information systems and remote sensing techologies for monitoring and survey of the trasboundary Ramsar areas in North-Livonia During quite a long time different approaches has been use for analysing geoinformatical data, gathered in wetlands. Overview of attempts and approaches for trasboundary GIS development in North-Livonia during last decade: from ApsRed to QuickBird will be given in the seminar. In the frame of INTERREG III A "WETLIVONIA" project there are workpackage of monitoring. The important activity in this are the development of GIS for transbondary Ramsar site in North Livonia. One of the aim is to use the high-resolution satellite images (QuickBird, size of pixel 60 cm) for evaluation of wetlands ecological status. In the frame of the project different soft- and hardware and also the QuickBird satellite photo of North-Livonian wetland complex is purchased for developing monitoring in North-Livonian wetland complex. Monitoring equipment for monitoring field-works are also purchased, as well as GPS basestation, etc. All these geoinformatical tools will be the part of Nigula Reserach- and Monitoring Centre, which is built in the frame of WETLIVONIA, for offering possibility for scientist and/or students to carry out their studies about wetlands. The building is also improving working conditions of local specialists. The aim of the seminar is to introduce the possibilities created for analysing information, gathered during the different projects in the area. A meeting was held to discuss the management challenges of Matsi seminatural meadow complex in the Sookuninga nature reserve. Initially there was an aim in the project to develop a detailled landscape plan for the area, but with the changes in the project a strategy of management has been developed instead.
